Hummingbird Preschool Program

The Hummingbirds is a class for children turning three by September 1st. This class utilizes an emergent curriculum classroom that focuses on the children’s social/emotional development through play-based, developmentally appropriate centers and hands-on experiences.  Children explore concepts such as colors, shapes, patterns, science, pre-literacy skills, and the world around them through active play in both the indoor centers and outdoor play spaces.  The emphasis in art and other experiences is on the process as opposed to the product.

Children are free to express themselves through playdough and art activities without a model to follow. Conflict resolution skills are modeled and practiced along with learning to name and express their feelings and emotions.  Children learn how to take turns, negotiate conflicts and make friendships all while playing and interacting with their peers. The students in this class have open center time, multiple outdoor play times, circle time with songs and stories as well as family style snack daily. The Hummingbird class has up to 16 children, with 2 teachers and 2-3 cooping parents each day.
